opened their 1978 season last
week with a convincing victory
over Lower Columbia College

Singles players Rita Mumm,
Debbie Copher, Lisa Chitty and
Carolyn Orazio, all scored wins.
"Rita Mumm was very patient
in her match," Michael said,
"and that is very difficult for
her. The others are also exhibi
ting a greater concentration and
we are just going to improve on
this."
In doubles play, Mumm and
Copher followed their singles
victories with a 6-0, 6-0 rout of
Lower Columbia's number one
doubles pair.

Orazio combined for the last
Cougar victory with a 6-3, 6-1

"I think
that our third
doubles team of Carolyn Orazio
and Shelly Riback performed
very well for their first compet
itive outing," Michael said.
"As a team we're working
very hard on our mental game
and I believe I saw some pay
offs during the match," Michael
said.
"Some of the girls are
taking sessions at Portland State
to improve their mental attitude
in athletics. They've been bring
ing it back and we put it to
work."
