DeNoon has long been involved in athletic competition. He was a United States National Champion in walking races seven times and a track and field All-American four times. DeNoon was also a member of the United States touring track team and has been an American record holder. DeNoon's coaching philosophy maintains that all athletes are dif­ ferent and each requires a separate, personal training program .Through close communication with the athlete he plans to counsel the girls to develop a program which will work best for them. "I'm very pleased to have coach DeNoon on our staff," Smith said. "I feel that the new coach will lend invaluable assistance in the team's quest for a NJCAA National Championship." Also active in administrative duties, DeNoon has helped or­ ganize meets including the Cali­ fornia State Championships and three national cross country cham­ pionships. In 1977 he promoted the largest indoor meet on the west coast. DeNoon recieved his B.A. in administration at California State University in 1970 and his ele­ mentary teaching credentials at Chapman College in 1971. He graduated from Rapid City High School in South Dakota. DeNoon served in the United States Air Force from January 1961 to January 1966 when he was honorably discharged as an airman first class.
