siastically as the team of their
choice answered a particularly
obscure question.
The questions, which ranged
from trivia—subjects like what
was the name of Paul Bunyan's
quadripedal companion—to serious
subjects like what do music theor
ists call the sixth tone of a
major or minor chord?
Participants were . asked ten
point toss-up questions with the
team that correctly answered the
toss-up getting a chance for a
bonus question worth a stated
number of points, usually from
25 to 40.
Vince Fitzgerald, college couns
elor who moderated the compe
tition, sounded as though he had
just stepped off a television show
circa 1959 in order to get things
rolling for a new generation of
College Bowl.
Dick Andrews, English instruc
tor who coached the winning
team in Monday's competition,
expressed his delight with his
teams' style.
"We may have weak buzzers
but we sure have a powerful
team," he said, referring to the
meek beep of his team's buzzers
in relation to the loud buzz of
the competition's.
Frank Harlow, speech instruct
or, had two teams entered and
although Mike McCarty's team
provided little competition for
Paul Jablonski's, neither team was
a match for Andrew's team cap
tained by Dale Beaty.
The winning student team will
face a faculty team for practice,
captained by Doug Roberts, stu
dent activity information director,
on Thursday.
The faculty member sponsoring
the winning team will receive
two free dinner tickets and will
travel to Tacoma along with his
team.
Members of Dale Beaty's team engage in discuss-
ion as moderator Vince Fitzgerald waits for answer.
