(Spoiler alert: watch this space next week for very exciting news. We’re not going anywhere). But amid all the spreadsheets and forecasting, there was room for some misty- eyed refl ection, too. Th is nostalgic reverie was triggered by the sight of assistant editor Quinn wearing a Transformers sweater that my mother knitted for me when I was a kid. Th is, in turn prompted a trans-Atlantic request for photos of myself at the tender age of seven so that we could do a little comparison. And while I am hugely thankful to my wife, Krista, for bringing some sturdy genes to the table and sparing young Quinn the misery of chunky-framed eyeglasses, I am mostly struck by how happy both these kids look. During such a time of upheaval, it pays to count one’s blessings. As I contemplate my life on the Oregon Coast, I fi nd many. Whether you are a fellow coastie or just passing through, I hope that you fi nd many also. 2 • oregoncoastTODAY.com • facebook.com/oregoncoasttoday • June 26, 2020 The author, aged seven
