Season’s greetings with ‘Sugar & Spice’
Some of the Pacific Northwest’s
most beloved musical artists will take
to the stage in Nehalem this Saturday,
Dec. 21, for “Sugar & Spice: A
Holiday Treat!”
The festive show features the
award-winning vocalist LaRhonda
Steele accompanied by her husband,
Mark Steele, on piano; Oregon Music
Hall of Fame drummer Carlton
Jackson; multi-award-winner Dean
Mueller on bass; and the one and only
Julie Amici on vocals. Together they
will be showcasing various styles of
jazz, blues, R&B and soul, all in the
spirit of the holidays.
The fifth annual showcase has
performed to sold-out audiences in the
Portland area, and is now on the road.
The show is a benefit for the
Musical Enrichment Program for
the Neah-Kah-Nie School District,
a new project within the Mudd-Nick
Foundation.
The show will start at 7 pm at the
NCRD Performing Arts Center,
36155 9th Street, Nehalem.

The gift of music
Musicians from Taft High School
will demonstrate their talents and spread
holiday cheer with a pair of performances
at Salishan Resort this Saturday, Dec. 21.
At 3 pm, the Taft High School Choir
will be at the Salishan Marketplace,
delighting last-minute shoppers with a
slate of carols and other holiday fare.
At 4 pm, the choir will join up with
the Taft High School Jazz Band for a
performance at the Salishan Long House.
The performances, presented by Music
is Instrumental and Salishan Resort, aim
to raise funds for good causes this holiday
season. Donations of canned or boxed
food will help stock shelves at the Lincoln
City Food Pantry, while cash donations
will benefit Feed the Flames, which helps
keep homes in the community heated
during winter.

A really festive Eve-nt
The auditorium of the Lincoln City
Cultural Center will be filled with warmth
and welcome this Tuesday, Dec. 24,
as singers and musicians join together
for “Winter Glow: a Christmas Eve
Celebration in Song.”
Led by artistic director Valerie Kendall,
the players will transport audience members
out of the cold winter into the cherished
warmth of friendship and community.
The concert will feature music from
Cross Generations with Kendall on lead
vocals, lead guitar and bass; Judy Allen on
vocals; Amanda Cherryholmes on vocals,
rhythm guitar, bass and cajón; Charlie
Cherryholmes on drums; Jane Ott on vocals
and keyboard; Shannon Zantello on vocals,
xylophone, cajón and bodhrán; and Diego
and Josue Gomez-Sanchez on vocals.
Kendall will also perform as one half of
Strawberry Charlotte, a singer-songwriter
duo that also features her daughter Haley
Dean, lead vocalist and songwriter for the
band Shores of Astor.
Afton Dean and Joshua Morgan, who
work side by side as baristas, will add a
popular sound to the mix with their own
solos. And the audience will get to hear
the Beard Family Bells, featuring Barbara
and Paula on bells, accompanied by Paul on
piano.
Audience members will be encouraged
to sing their hearts out to the songs they
know, helping create a little Winter Glow
all of their own.
The concert, presented by the First
Baptist Church of Lincoln City, will start at
6:30 pm in the auditorium of the Lincoln
City Cultural Center, 540 NE Hwy 101.
Admission, wassail and baked goods are all
free.
