Dial in your
bid for KYAQ
Lincoln County’s only community-
owned radio station, KYAQ FM, is
hosting an online auction through Dec.
15.
The auction is an important fund-
raiser for the station, which relies on
financial support from listeners and local
underwriters such as Red Lotus Music
and the Nye Beach Café. KYAQ does
not receive any funding from federal
or state agencies and depends on the
generosity of its listeners to support
independent radio broadcasting.
All through November, volunteers
collected donations from community
members and local businesses. These
donations include a night’s stay at an
AirBnB, multiple gift certificates for
local restaurants, CDs from Bartow
& the Backseat Drivers, kites, books,
clothing, artwork and much more.
For detailed information about how
to bid for an item, go to www.KYAQ.org.
Broadcasting round the clock at
91.7 FM, KYAQ offers a wide range of
programming, from Amy Goodwin’s
award-winning “Democracy Now” and
David Barsamian’s “Alternative Radio,”
to local shows such as “Rock Through
the Ages” with Dave Huntington; “Latin
Corner” with Angel Jimenez; “Healthy
Diet, Healthy Planet” with Maia and
Michael Stout; “Dead and Friends with
Jim Vanhoeck;” and many more.
A multi-layered event
If you love art, community and great
Italian food, the Bay City Arts Center’s
Sixth Annual Lasagna-thon fundraiser is
the place to be on the evening of Saturday,
Dec. 7.
The center will be serving up five kinds
of lasagna — traditional Italian sausage,
pesto, vegetarian, gluten-free and seafood
— accompanied by garlic bread, green salad
with balsamic vinaigrette and berry cobbler.
Between 16 and 18 lasagnas will be made
on-site using only the freshest ingredients,
including more than a pound of peeled
garlic, bunches of basil and hand-made
lasagna noodles. On top of everything,
nearly 20 pounds of mozzarella, ricotta and
Parmesan cheeses will go into this once-a-
year feast.
Lasagna-thon is the Bay City Arts
Center’s big fundraiser for the year and also
features live music and a silent auction with
lots of great items donated by local artisans
and businesses.
Doors open at 5:30 pm, with dinner
served from 6 to 8 pm and the silent
auction running from 7 to 8 pm. After 8
pm, the disco ball will start spinning and

music will fill the hall for those who want to
dance ‘til they drop.
Tickets, $20, are available by calling 503-
377-9620 or by emailing baycityartscenter@
gmail.com.
Besides being a spectacular dinner and
fundraiser, Lasagna-thon also serves as
the official art opening for the center’s
December Member Show, featuring a
fun mix of styles and media that is sure to
inspire.
District hosts potluck
Insights into local environmental
challenges will be served up alongside
homemade treats on Thursday, Dec.
12, when the Lincoln Soil & Water
Conservation District holds its Annual
Meeting and Year End Potluck in
Newport.
The informal event will see the
district’s staff and board of directors
celebrate achievements of the 2018-
19 fiscal year and look forward into
2020. This friendly potluck gathering
allows district conservation staff the
opportunity to give a public overview of
restoration projects, conservation goals,
water quality monitoring programs,
environmental education offerings and
an analysis of how the district can better
meet community needs throughout
Lincoln County.
The potluck dinner begins at 6 pm,
followed by a presentation from 7 to
8:30 pm with Q&A and an attenuated
December board meeting from 8:30 to
9 pm. The event will take place at the
Newport Visual Arts Center, 777 NW
Beach Drive
