lively Plaid Friday, worth checking out If the prospect of making Jeff Bezos’ tower of gold a few stories taller by taking part in Black Friday does not appeal, merchants in Manzanita, Nehalem and Wheeler have an alternative proposal — Plaid Friday. Plaid Friday is designed to promote both local and independently owned businesses during the holidays. Merchants throughout the three villages will roll out the red carpet with special offers and incentives this Friday, Nov. 29. Get set for Giving Tuesday Looking for a way to connect with your community, do good works and feel great? Then mark your calendars for a pre-holiday pick-me-up that will strengthen your community and spread the joy of the season: the Giving Tuesday Generosity Bazaar & Volunteer Fair, taking place on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the Lincoln City Cultural Center. Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Lincoln City marks the occasion by providing a networking and fundraising opportunity for local nonprofits. Representatives from a variety of local groups and a host of worthy causes will have booths in the cultural center auditorium. Guests are invited to drop by, anytime from 10 am to 3 pm, to learn about volunteering and donation opportunities, or to purchase holiday fundraising items. “We’ve got a day just for shopping and discounts, that’s Black Friday” said cultural center Director Niki Price. “We’ve also got a day where people buy gifts online, that’s Cyber Monday. So, Giving Tuesday is about taking a break from buying, a day to remember that generosity and selflessness are what the season is truly about.” Groups taking part in Giving Tuesday include the North Lincoln County Historical Museum, the Oregon Coast Community College Foundation, Lincoln County Emergency Services, Boy Scouts of America, CERT, the Humane Society and CHANCE, the group now operating the Lincoln City Warming Shelter. There will be fundraising items to buy, including See’s candies from the Kiwanis Club of Lincoln City, pancake mix from Backpacks for Kids, wreaths from the Rotary Club of Lincoln City and commemorative bricks from the cultural center. All the organizations will have information, signup sheets and donation receipts, offering guests the chance to get involved in a variety of ways. In addition, the center will be collecting donations of new, unwrapped toys for the North Lincoln Fire & Rescue District drive, nonperishable food for the Lincoln City Food Pantry and warm clothing for the Lincoln City Warming Shelter. Guests are invited to take an “unselfie” at their chosen booth, and post it to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram account using #lincolncitygives and #givingtuesday. to raise awareness of the day and the bazaar. The Giving Tuesday Generosity Bazaar & Volunteer Fair will run from 10 am to 3 pm at 540 NE Hwy. 101. For more information, or to donate or volunteer, call Donna Morris at 503-703-8224.
