HOME BREW ILLEGAL THE U N I V E R S A L C A B Only Non-Intoxicating Fruit Juices May Be Made. Washington, D. C.— Warning that the making of Intoxicating “ home brew” la Illegal was issued by I'ro- hlbltlnn Commissioner Haynes. Numerous Inquiries have been re ceived. he said, concerning home man ufacture of fruit Juices growing out of reports that a head of a household was entitled to make 200 gallons of wine a year under permit. The prohibition unit's attitude on the home-brew question was defined by Mr Haynes as follows: "Non-intoxleatlng fruit Juice can be made In the home. Intoxicating wine, home brew and distilled spirits may not. Tw o hundred gallons non-lntoxl- cating fruit Juice may be manufactured tnx free by the head of n family registering with a collector of Internal revenue. "Th is (««ex em p tion provision has been the source of confusion. The effect of this Is not to allow the man ufacture of 200 gallons of intoxicat ing wine free from restrictions of the national prohibition net, but merely to allow the mnnufacture of 200 gallons of noii'liitoxicntiug juices free of tax."
