The i fire started from the remains of a camp fire built by huulers from Portlaud and left to burn itself out almost on the McKenzie pass tight of way. The fire worked its way through some sawdust placed m a hole in tin road last suriug and was rapidly ap preaching the sawmill of Swartz Bros., of Lost Creek rauch. The mill is on the edge of a good stand of timber and iu a short while the fire perhaps would have assumed alarming proper tious but for the timely luterveatiou of the two women. _ H. L.
