balance for the first eight months of
1920 was $1.493.000.000, compared to
more than |3.00u.000.000 for the cor
responding p«-rlod of 1919. according
to figures made public by tho depart
ment of commerce. They showed Its
lini>ort trade Is expanding at a more
rapid parn than export trade.

high record. On the other hand, ex
ports for the eight months wero $2,
347,171,969 less than those In the 12

tho first eight months of last year.
The total of exports for the months
was $5.493..254.171.
The total of Imports for the eight
months was $4,000,627.445, compared
with $2,261,550,440 for tho correspond
lug period In 1919.
