Grove's big inning was the third. when eight runners piled across home plate. Every man in the lineup scored in that inning, ex cept shortstop Harold Hurst. Nossaman. Hansen and Mike Heckman each scored a pair of runs during the game Hansen was the heavy hitter for the local club, collecting three hits for four times at bat. Carr hit 2 for 4 and Math is was credited with a pair of singles for five trips to the plate. Grove's runs were the result of nine hits, nine walks and six errors. Women's Golf Club Initiates at Luncheon Umqpua Salmon Still cn Increase For the fourth straight year the spring salmon migration on the Umpqua river has held the s pot- light with a record number of fish passing the counting lioard at Win chester dam up to mid-June. Records kept by Bill Pitney, game commission fishery biologist at Roseburg, show that this year's run has surpassed all previous runs to the mid-June date and may be a record breaker if the present trend continues since there is still better than a month to go on the spring run counts From mid-May to mid-June. 4.500 adult fish and 740 jacks were tallied at the counting sta tion The previous high for a sim ilar period occurred in 1955 when • 171 adults and 763 jacks W* • «.tinted By the June 15 date, the 1956 migration stood at 7,186 fish. 1.200 more than had ever been seen at a similar date in previous ye irs of counting.
