Fine Livestock
A record large dairy cattle show
of 721 animals of all major breeds
will be featured by a Jersey show
with nearly 200 entries, including
animals from most of the Western
states, Connecticut. Missouri, Ar­
kansas and British Columbia.
Strong shows also are in prospect
for the other dairy breeds, with
Brown Swiss especially showing a
big increase in numbers.
The sheep show also will be the
largest ever staged in this region,
with some 712 animals competing.
Increases from last year also are
show n in "the swine show w ith 425
head, and in dairy goats with 148
head. Angora goats with 49 head
are about the same as last year.

complete showing of purebred
livestock is the 475-head beef cat­

Hereford Association's annual
Register of Merit show. The

be the last of the “ten wheelers" in
the United States, will join the
famous old side-wheel steamboat
"•Ticonderoga" in the transportation
exhibit at the celebrated Shelburne
Museum in Vermont. Built in 1915
and known as the “Presidents'
Engine", coal-burning 220 hauled
many "VIP" special trains in its
long and active career including
those of Presidents Calvin Coolidge,
Herbert Hoover. Franklin D. Roose­
velt and Dwight Eisenhower. It was
also used on a special train oper­
ated for the Duke of Windsor when
he was Prince of Wales. The loco­
motive. retired from active service
and replaced by a diesel, was pre­
sented to Mrs. .1 Watson Webb,
founder and president of the Shel­
burne Museum by Donald M. Kerr,
General Manager, Central Vermont

channel closures along both banks
of the Middle Fork Willamette
river at the Green, Fox and Kor-
