OREGON, VOLUME LXTV Council Hears Acct ° dans; More Study Before Decision The city council at a special meeting Monday night decided to make further research on the ac cess road plans that were present ed before recommending any spe cific one. Byron S. Houck presented the Dorena Grange plan and pointed out that the main concern of the group was the amount of through tourist traffic that was going to be derived from the new highway. They felt that their plan of having the access road come down Har vey and Grover streets to the present highway would gain the most traffic. The Chamber of Commerce plan was presented by John Finneran and Bill Hesse. The Chamber has received letters of endorsement from some local groups including the Lions club, Hebron Grange and Bohemia Lumber company. They also have a letter from th<? city council dated 1952 okaying their plan of having the access road come in right north of Frank’s Tavern on Highway 99 North. The Chamber enumerated the reasons for their plan as follows: 1. There would be controlled ac cess north of town. 2. Tourists like to go through a town; they do not like to retrace steps. 3. This plan would leave the town as a whole instead of isolating part of it; and 4 This would help the Delight Valley people by providing them a faster route to town. A third plan was presented by Jim Hcmenway of Delighf Valley. His plan calls for a merger where the present Delight Valley road will cross the new highway at either one of the two possible crossing points. If this were done, the county would blacktop the Delight Valley road, according to the county engineer, giving access to the present and new highways. This plan would allow the Row River residents access by coming in past Cook's Grocery and would " Saginaw in- also give access to habitants. Gil Gardner is the chairman of the committee doing the research on the plans.
