In case readers have been
wondering about the phenom
ena some time ago about an
overage in city funds, the city
paid $300 to auditors to find
about that amount, got it down
to $4.58 and then decided not
to spend another possible $500
to find that sum. So council
men heard at Monday’s session.
The small sum is carried as
an overage on city books. The
background of the story was
that in order to release the for
mer city recorder, Don Allen,
from his bond, city books had
to be audited to January 1
when the new man took over.
Then the overage was discov-
ered.
In the meantime the city had
jiaid about $1.700 for a state
audit of the 1952 fiscal year’s
books. But the budget will not
suffer, as the two audit
amounts were taken from the
Emergency fund. What about
Emergency? If there is an
emergency, council stated, there
probably would still be some
money left. Emergency also
was hit for salary raises not
long ago, however.
