The young couple was showered with many lovely and useful gifts. The shower was given by ladies of the Church of Jesus Christ of Lat ter Day Saints. LORANE PARSONAGE SCENE OF WEDDING Miss Mina Sloan became the bride of Ralph Pieston Hassman at the First Congregational church, Eugene, December 29. Dr. Wesley Nicholson, pastor of the church, officiated at the ceremony at 11 o'clock in the morning, The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sloan of Culp Creek and parents of the bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Hassman of Al- bany. The bride was given in mar riage by her father. James Kays of Eugene was soloist and sang "The Lord's Prayer” and “Bless This House.” The bride's gown was ballerina lenght. Her full skirt was of nylon tulle with basque waist. Over this’ she ware a long-sleeved Chantilly lace jacket. Her fingertip veil was attached to a crown of white sweetheart roses with touches of pink. She carried a bouquet of white sweetheart roses. Maid of honor was her sister, Joanne Sloan of Eugene, Her gown was of royal blue net over light blue rayon satin faille. Her flowers and head band were white carnations. Bridesmaids were Nor ma Jo Piefer of San Francisco and Dorothy Nell Nixon of Eu gene. Their gowns were identical to the maid of honors in color and style. Their floweis and head bands were red carnations. Flower girl w as Gloria Hassman of Wichi ta. Kan., and ringbearer was Philip Case Grant of Eugene. John Schlegel of Albany acted as best man, while ushers were Lew Hassman of Wichita, Kan., and John Piefer of San Francisco. The recepticii was held in the Wheeler room of the church. Mrs. C. D. Miller presided at the punch bow 1 and Mrs. Joe E. Miller cut the wedding cake, assisted by Mts. H. Grant. Mrs. R. S. Drenner of Culp Creek poured’the coffee. The bride's going away outfit was blue Boucle tweed with black velvet cuffs and collar and black accessories. After a fevO days at the Oregon beach, they went to Medford, their future home. The bride attended Oregon State college two years and re ceived her B.S. degree in Educa tion from the University of Ore gon. She is a member oof Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. Mr. Hass man receiv<91 his B. S. degree from Oregon State and Master's degree in physical education from the University of Oregon. He is af- filiat»d with Kappa Sigma fra ternity. Local Couple Wed Fifty Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. George Stephen observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary the evening of Decem ber 31 at their home on West Main street with their three chil- dten and families present. George Jr., came from Anchor age, Alaska, to be with his par ents on their anniversary, and showed colored slides taken in Alaska. Also present were their other son and daughter-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Stephen, children Stuart and Pamela, and their son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs. Leland Hansen and daughter Cheryl. Refreshments, including a wed ding cake, wcie served during the evening. Both Mr. and Mrs. Stephen were born in Montrose, Scotland, and were married at the same place December 31, 1902. Mr. Stephen has been a bookj keeper and accountant for 35 yeais. He was previously employ - ed by the Woodard Lumber Co. and Durable Fir Lumber Co. and the last few years has had his own accounting office.
