The pension demand is being made in the “big fir” region im mediately and may lx- made else where in the northwest after next week's talks by contract negotia tion committeemen for ali coun cils. Kenneth Davis, secretary of the union’s Northwestern Council. - said locals had been instructed to take a strike vote at once on the pension plan. He said the industry might be shut down by Christmas should the industrial group cpoki-smen refuse to bargain, "We are not bluffing and there will be no compromise. We will make our demands at once on the employers and ask for immediate meetings with them. Unless we get a pension *within a reasonable time, we will shut down the indus try," Davis asserted. His statement followed Satur day’s session of officers of the Portland - Coast - Columbia Coun cil, the Coos Bay Council, Puget Sound Council and Willamette Valley Council. Davis said the union planned to make only one demand the pen sion of employers this coming year. No wage increases are ex pected, he said.
