Kent On the November ballot will ap- P»’«r a measure, intended if it should pass, to give to our older jieople a little better security and build safer for the younger one* when they too shall reach the ig- when not needed in Industry. This measure has been called an exper iment by those opposed to it and «> It is. any new law is an experiment until it has proven Itself. The gio s tax however has been in general UNC general government ponses for a number of years in the Hawaiian Islands and found very successful If the measure passes and is a success Oregon will have advanced security a long way. H It isn't it won’t take Oregon people long to find it out and look for something better. While our old age assistance program is much better than the poor house era, it is not up to present day standards of living Oregon pioneered ip gas oline tax road building whi<Ji at the present is more than 2#'. cf the cost of gas yet nobody refuses to pay it or use the roads it built. Gas is no higher than before and it has been so successful that every state has it now. They said it would drive tourists and business out of Oregon as they are doing about this measure, but Itididnt so let’s not be scared about that. Some labor and grange loaders that sat in at its making approved it alt ho since some have opposed it. In any event the members of those organizations are capable of deciding for themselves. As a man in business we have no guarantee that it would make us a dollar yet it should help to stabilize business in the coming months or years by putting buying power into hands that must use it. We have made a thorough study of our Federal So cial Security program and find it very Inadequate Retired workers in this district receive less than | an average of $23 00 per month j and widows of retired workers ! less than $15.00. How many of ' us could get by with that, and our county state assistance isn't much to be proud of as it comes as a dole rather than a rightful heri tage. Maytie this measure is the answer. We have been for a num ber of years interested in helping to build a better security for all in their sunset years, to help re move that fear that clutches at the hearts of many who through no fault of their own face later years dependent on relatives or charity. Let's live and let live. Glancing ahead 25 to 30 years seems a long time but looking back it is hut a few fleeting ones. Our younger people may feel that pen sions are for those old gray heads, hut in building a better security they are doing far more for them selves than for the ones whose years are few. Don't be misled by anyone. Read this measure and de cide for yourself. ERNE8T AND CLARENCE HILL Phone 44 against your warm toned skin! High fashion . . . accenting a frock or suit.
