F.-Rebekah lodges was held last Friday evening in the lodge hall. A potluck dinner was served at 6:30. Mrs. W. F. (Mae) Hart of Portland, grand chaplain fo r the Rebekah Assembly of Oregon and a former member of the Cottage Grove lodge, was the only out of town visitor. Several messages from person? unable to attend were read. During the din ner hour and a short intermission that followed Mr. and Mrs. Ren Gardner entertained w ith violin and piano music. Following the banquet the local Odd Fellow lodge put on the second degree fo r candidates from the Lorane lodge. Five members from .Lorane W’ere present. Later a joint meeting and roll call was held. Each member pre sent and those affiliated w ith other lodges told when and where they became members. Curtis Veatch was presented w ith a 25 year jewel, Robert St Elmo made the presentation. A committee, Mmes. Beatrice McCoy, Alma Porterfield and Bertha Gunderson, assisted by one from the men's lodge was in charge of arrangements for the evening. Mrs Hazel Tohlen and Mrs. Isabelle M iller entertained the Daughters of Union Veterans Monday night at llw Ixinie of Mrs. Mabe, Dolcman for' a Christmas party. A short business meeting was held and the group voted ,0 petition the state pres ident for a special dispensation granting them the privilege of meeting the second and fourth Mondays of the month. Later Christmas gifts wen» exchanged and games and singing occupied the evening. Mi's. Nellie Jones was a special guest. At the close of the evening refreshments were served, ♦ - MR. & MRS. DAUGHERTY HOSTS Mr. and Mrs Warren Daugherty entertained the men of the Daugherty Lumber and Piling Companies Saturday night w ith a turkey dinner. The hours follow ing were spent w ifti various games in the rumpus room of the Daugh erty home. Monday evening the lady mem bers of the office staff were en tertained at dinner and a social evening at the Daugherty home. Various committees appointed assisted the hostess w ith a dessert course and entertainment which followed. The tables presented a festive appear ance w ith centerpieces of holly, place cards and napkins w ith Christmas design. The group gath ered round the Christmas tree where gifts were exchanged and Ch.istm.is carols, led by Helen Hardy and accompanied by Ruth Caldwell, were sung. The remain der of ttie evening was spent w ith games. Il was reported Dial Alice Breedlove had been appointed by Constance Weber, Hood River, state president of the Business and Professional Women's clubs, to serve on the nominating commit tee fo r state officers for the years of 1945-46. Hoskins and Mrs. Robert Drenner, entertained the Social Twelve last Thursday at the Christensen home A luncheon was served at 1 o'clock and a social afternoon followed. The club voted to buy more yarn for an afghan which they w ill make fo r a hospital gift. They have a l ready made and given several to the Red Cross. A fte r the business session a “ white elephant” ex change of gifts was enjoyed. Members had agreed that the club would give money to the Red Cross instead of buying the usual gifts fo r each other.
