He dreams he's King Louis and she’s his Mme. Du Barry. His friends and associates of the club become characters in the adven­ tures of the king and the charm­ er. Amid comical complications galore Red foils a plot against him and then wakes up and finds the true path to love. The comedy is embellished with a catchy Cole Porter musical score, with Tommy Dorsey and his band doing yeoman service in the harmony line. Skelton was never funnier than as the merry monarch, and Miss Ball, in gorgeous gowns, is allur­ ing as well as a clever actress. Zero Mostel, New York comedian, makes an auspicious bow on the screen in the picture, and Virgin­ i a O'Brien, "dead pan" singer, warbles catchy songs in her inimi­ table style. "Rags" Ragland and Donald Meek aid and abet in the funmaking. Roy Del Ruth direct­ ed the picture with many clever touches and the artistic techni­ color photography by Karl Freund effectively brings out the girls, gowns and other beauty spots of the production.
