Some fa ir catches were reported made on the W illam ette in the vicin ity o f Oakridge. Douglas C ounty: Steelhead fish ing in the N o rth Umpqua R iver is at its peak now. They are being taken on flies and spinners from the Idleyld d is tric t to Steamboat Creek and vicin ity. T rout fishing is also good and most a ll fisher men are able to make fa ir catches. Small stream fishing is not very good as the w ater is low and warm. The naval o ffice r procurement program provides three routes un der which w orth y young men can earn the ranks of commissioned officers. Joint boards from the armed forces w ill call at colleges and universities during the firs t term of school to explain how- students may sta rt on the path toward commissioned officers in the navy. The new regulations ease the re quirements fo r eyes and teeth and rule that candidates must be c iti zens. w hile the form er standards set up rig id rules fo r eyes and teeth and called fo r citizenship of 10 years. There are five classifi cations under which young men may qualify. They are V-5, the aviation cadet program, which is open to a ll qualified high school graduates between the ages of IS and 26 years.
