The Army wants the age minimum dropped to 1H— it prefers
young men. A nother law may be proposed to give the l*resi«letit
au thority to defer all men over 27. Conscripting older men has
m ade for social and economic dislocations.
According to officials, training is going ahead well, and the
quality of men is the best in our history. Basic supply ami hous
ing problems hiive been solved.However, some experts doubt

that a y e a r’s training is enough to tu rn a civilian into a crack
soldier.

All of us are more or less scotch and hate to see so much
waste. If ways and means were devised to utilize th is waste
m aterial, it would mean much to communities such as this one
both in providing additional payrolls as well as prolonging the
