TH E PEN ALTY OF INACTION.
Cottage Grove has one ot the best skiing grounds in the
state within an easy hour’s drive over good roads as well as
some of the most scenic recreational grounds, but until recently
no sort of effort has been made to make these possibilities ae-
oessible.
As has been pointed out in these columns b lore, we might
have a good road up to the summit of the l»ol t»niss. if indivi
duals and groups of individuals would evidence sufficient in
terest in these recreational possibilities to ask for a little aid in
road building. There aren’t many things in life handed out on a
silver platter and roads are not an exception to this rule.
Right now the Bohemia ski club faces a handicap on ac
count of the fact that there is no all-weather road into this
region. We have been told by government officials that if the
public here would evidence more interest in the Bohemia section
that road iiwprovenieufs would be possible. Except for a little
noise made by thc'Chamber of Commerce about a year ago. noth
ing more has been heard on the subject.
If individuals and groups of individuals, not as members of
arp’ organization, but as citizens, would contact the CCt organ
isation, we feel sure that improvements over the road from
Disston on would be forthcoming within the next few months.

In some influential circle«, the belief is gaining ground that
government price-fixing will be one of the inevitable emergency
steps of the near future. This belief is based on the theory that
only through stern governmental action can dangerous price in
flation be avoided as the defense program strains our produc
tive resources.
Time may prove that contention, but it does seem as if the
advocates of Federal price-fixing are premature. AVe have been
living on an officially-proclaimed *’ limitcd emergency basis
for a year, and in a world in which the normal peace-time econ
omy has been dislocated. Act there has been no ‘ ‘ price, prob
lem .” To the contrary, advances in the general cost of living in
dexes have been extremely small. And of late, the commodity
cost graphs have been tending slightly downward.

hand, we allow ourselves to per
sonalize these evil tendencies, to
admit that one member of the
fam ily is governed by this one,
and another by that, and then be
cause of this permit ourselves to
deal unfairly w ith, or dislike the
person, we shall allow evil to gain
a foothold which may not be
quickly dislodged.
Frequent ly we may find it help
ful to consider what it was that
enabled Jesus to help others so
effectually. Whether the belief to
be overcome was sicknses, sin. or
death, our Master proved that it
could lie done immediately. What
equipped him to do this? Was it
not that be entertained a "cor
rect view" ot what man really is?
Our textbook answers this ques
tion in a sentence. This is it:
"Jesus beheld in Science the per
fect man. who appeared to him
where sinning m ortal man appears
to mortals. In this perfect man
the Saviour saw God's own like

healed the sick" (Science and
Health, p. 476). I f "this correct
view of man” enabled Jesus to
help others, how important that
we should endeavor through Chris-
ian Science to acquire “ this cor
rect view.”

action of the Christian Scientist,
for is he not learning that God
alone govirns, and that the Sci
ence which deals w ith God's gov
ernment of man and the universe
is the only science of government ?
When the inhabitants of a coun
try are completely subject to
God's government, their politics
w ill be scientific.
An enlightened citizenship is
the need of the hour. Individual
liberties are under constant and
subtle attack, and alertness is re
quired to safeguard popular gov
ernment, and civil and religious
freedom. Autocracies may be su
perficially efficient. But efficiency
is not the prim ary purpose of

of the animal division of the state
department of agriculture, whose
answers in each Instance was
"no” .

tails were a nuisance at m ilking

Dr. Lytle pointed out that there
is a law which makes it illegal to
m utilate animals. A ja il sentence
