COUNTY BUDGET The Lane county budget was passed Monday at Eugene with only about twelve taxpayers on hand at the public hearing. The budget provides for a levy of 12.6 mills against 17 mills for 1940 and 21 mills for 1939,the lowest in at least a dozen years. The committee who prepared the budget included J. H. Cham­ bers of Cottage Grove, Cal Young, Angus Gibson, E. H. Petersen and County Judge Clinton Hurd. A new tax modernization sys­ tem is being installed in the coun­ ty assessor's office and the office of the tax collector. A total of $14,500 for the new system is in­ cluded in the budget.
