Hand Concert
A band concert and novelty pro­
gram will be given in the new
achool building on Taylor avenue,
Friday, April 12, under direction
of Mr. Christianson. Several num-

the past week with the purchas­
ing of $20 95 worth of new equip­
ment. New material purchased

The New Building
Vivid descriptions of the new
high school building were given in
the assembly Friday by Superin­
tendent Ferrin, Betty Adkins and
Vina) Randall. A short humorous
skit which crcntcd much laughter
was given by a courtesy campaign
committee on how not to treat the
new building. A highlight on the
program was a sfieech by George
Stout, which he will enter in the
state F.F.A. contest in Portland
next week. Additional numbers
were solos by Patricia Baldwin.
"My Lover Is a Fisherman," and
Bill Spies, "Apples on the Lilac
Tree.” Group singing was led by
Mr. Christianson, accompanied by
Patricia Baldwin.

Farewell Social
The junior class is sponsoring a
farewell basket social to the old
building. Friday, March 29 The
general committee is: Mary Barr,
Arline Anderson, Bill Workman,
Mildred Harris. Sylva Michael,
Bud McCoy and Patricia Baldwin.
The evening will be spent playing
games and dancing. Admission re­
quirements arc that a girl bring a
boy and a basket. The hoys will
hid upon the baskets starting at
25c ending with 50c. Bud McCoy
will act as auctioneer. The money
will be used for the junior-senior
banquet.

The Cottage Grove chapter of
the National Honor Society Jour­
n e ye d to Eugene Monday evening
to enjoy a swimming party at the
Gerllnger Hall swimming pool.

casualties resulted but ducking
was quite prevalent.

terclass softball league lead with
a 7-4 victory over the seniors on
March 22. The game was inter­
rupted several times due to the
lettermen's initiation. Batteries:
for the sophs. Hoeker and Sehri-
cker; for the seniors. Mosby and
Randall.

Turkey and Spud
Report Forecasts
More Production
Turkey growers and potato pro­
ducers in this country intend to
raise between 4 and 5 per cent
more birds and plant about 2 per
cent more acres to spuds than
last year, according to latest fed­
eral surveys reported in the cur­
rent agricultural situation and
outlook circular issued by the
agricultural extension service at
O.S.C.
This moderate increase will be
in the face of slightly higher costs
and uncertain consumer demand
prospects, the report points out.
T h e circular, obtainable at any
county extension office, also con­
tains outlook
information on
horses and mules together with
considerable data on trends and
levels of farm prices for many
Oregon farm products. Tables of
turkey and potato statistics are
featured.
On a regional basis ,the pros­
pect is that turkey production will
be curtailed slightly in the west­
ern states, while the potato acre­
age is expected to be increased
somewhat more than in the coun­
try as a whole. Actual production
will depend considerably upon
weather conditions and other fac­
tors, as usual, states the report.
In 1939, turkey
production
broke all records, and prices aver­
aged several cents under 1938 des­
pite a level of consumer purchas­
ing power materially higher than
during the previous marketing
season. On the other hand, potato
production in 1939 was near aver­
age in quantity, and prices re­
sponded upward to the more fav­
orable consumer demand situation
as compared with the year before.
Demand prospects for the 1940-
1941 marketing season remain
somewhat uncertain with recovery
from the present recession ex­
pected but much depends upon the
course of war. Farm costs aver­
age approximately 1.6 per cent
higher than a year ago. according
to the government index of prices
paid by farmers for taxes, inter­
est and commodities used in pro­
duction. Farm wage rates are ex­
pected to increase somewhat, also.
