Th»* county budget committee,
meeting at the county court house
in Eugene yesterday, recessed un­
til Friday, after considering two
important items. The committee
placed $1,000 in the budget to
promote the plan of straightening
the
Oregon
Pacific highway
through the southern part of the
state. The indigent soldier's fund
of $1,500 was raised to $2,500 for
1940 and the fund for unemploy­
ment was fixed at $8,000 for 1940,
the same as 1939. A new county
relief budget has been submitted
but no action taken.
Previously the committee fixed
the non-high school district bud­
get at $60,575, the same as the
past year, but the amount to be
raised by taxation is less than
last year because of a greater
sum of cash on hand. The com­
mittee gave its tentative approv­
al of the county health service
budget, increased from $8,180 to
$9,580. The committee also heard
a delegation protesting the cut of
the county fair fund, but took no
action at the time.
The taxpayers meeting to con­
sider the budget will be heard at
the county court house in Eugene
on October 31 at 1:30 p. m.
