PET PARADE JUNE 17 The Willamette flood control project appropriation made the second hurdle Friday toward fin al passage when the senate passed a $302,192,000 flood con-1 trol measure, which restores $50,- (XX),(XX) the senate appropriation committee had deleted and those who had watched the progress of the appropriation were given cause to celebrate. The bill went back to the house for minor amendments. Tentaflve allocations made by the army engineer* at the time the measure wax approved by the house includes $3.235,700 for the Dorena and the Cottage Grove reservoir; the Cottage Grove re«- the ervolr to cost $1,480,000, tentative sum allocated would complete this reservoir and $1,- 755.000 for the Dorena reservoir, which would be sufficient to com plete the project two thirds. Tentative allocation* made for other project« under the present setup are: Tulatin river. Willam ette river basin, $160,250.000; Fern Ridge reservoir on the Long Tom river, $1,489,300; Santiam river, in Willamette basin. $60.- (XX); Detroit reservoir highway relocation on Santiam, $500,000; Open channel work on the Wil lamette river, $100,000. A meeting of school board directors, clerk« and repre sentatives of the various school districts in south Lane county will be held in the high school gymnasium next Tuesday evening, beginning at 8:00 p. m. H. B. Ferrin, city superintendent, announc ed yesterday. The meeting wax called by L. C. Moffitt, county superintendent. Mrs. Grace Schiska, county treas- Steven«, urer, and W. county auditor, are expected to attend in addition to Mr. Moffitt. New school laws, records to be kept and school budgets will be discussed. The meet ing will be opened to repre- ■entatlvex of any school in this section of the county. Silk Creek Petitions In for Consolidation With New Union Hi Petitions seeking to bring the Silk Creek school district into the Cottage Grove union high school district have been filed with the county boundary board, it was learned here today. Petitions with the required number of signatures from Silk Creek and Cottage Grove are on file with the boun- dary board, but no action has been taken by the board, so far as known. It is also understood that peti- tions have been or will be cir- culated for the consolidation of the Silk Creek and the Lorane high school districts. Date of the election in which voters of the Cottage Grove and Silk Creek voters will approve or reject the consolidation of the two district* will be held on the same date of the annual meeting, which is June 26th. Problems of particular interest to the post masters of this area were dis cussed. After the round-table dis cussion the postmasters visited the local office and highly com plimented Postmaster Nelson on the well arranged and neat condi tion of his office.
