The fund representing the procei-ds from the President's Birthday hall amounts to approxi mately $100. It was stated. A local case. Howard Keene, who was stricken about nine months ago is now ready for braces, after having the proper hospital treatment. According to Dr. Harold Axley, local physician, the braces will cost about $215.00. Lane county has an Indigent fund, amounting to approximately $70. With the local fund of $100 and the county fund of $70, about $50 more will be nced«»d for the prop er care of the local case. It was understood that the Eagles lodge plan to give a bene fit dance to raise the balance of the money needed for the re habilitation of Mr. Keene, but as this is written no announcement has been made as to the time and place for holding the dance or baD. Bond Issue Organization of New School Board Made Monday POLLING PLACE TO BE HERE Charles Beidler was elected chairman of the board of direc tors of the newly created union high school district at the first official meeting of that body at the Cottage Grove high school Monday evening. The personnel of the board consists of, in ad dition to Mr. Beidler: Roy Hands of Mt. View, George McReynolds of Divide, Earl Garoutte of Culp Creek, and Archie Walker of Latham. The board announced the appointment of Worth Har vey as clerk. The board has set the date for the vote on a bond issue of $150,000 for September 26, 193R between the hours of two o’clock and seven p. m. The polling place will be the high school gymnasium in Cottage Grove. The board made formal appb cation for a PWA grant to aid in construction of the school, and tram acted other business neces sary in organizing the new board. According to the present in terpretation of the law, all dis tricts involved in the consolida tion must vote at a central vot ing place and the board mem bers have selected Cottage Grove Application has been made for a bond issue of $150,000, however with a forty-five percent grant from the Public Works admin istration board members do not anticipate that it will take the full amount of the bond issue to construct the contemplated im provements. Deadline for filing applications for bond issues un der a PWA grant Is October 31st and January 1st, 1938 is the final date for starting construc tion on any PWA projert. Fur ther ruling is that the project must be substantially completed by July 1, 1940. The present local school board will continue the affairs of the Cottage Grove schools until the union high school building is completed, if the voters approve the bond issue and after that if the bond issue is successful, the board will direct the affairs of the grade schools. Local board members are: V. T. Randall, C. A. Beidler, E. R. Lemley, C. E. Umphrey. W. L. Workman and Worth Harvey, clerk. Districts involved in the union project if the bond issue carries are: Cottage Grove, Latham. Disston, Culp Creek, Dorena Fairview, Mountain View, Blue Mountain, Walden. Hebron, Lon don, Divide, Mt. View and Cedars. Deer Season to Open September 20th With Usual Good Prospects Local nimrods are oiling their shooting irons for the Oregon deer season which starts Septem ber 20th and lasts for thiry-five days. Indications are that the coming season will be one of the most successful enjoyed in sever al years and deer in most vicini ties are reported plentiful. Re ports from eastern Oregon say the animals are more plentiful than usual. More local hunters will journey to the eastern part of the state than will establish camps in this section, however good hunting may be had in the Bohemia and Lorane sections. Kills in the east ern Oregon section range from fifty to 100 percent in years pass ed.
