Since that time rates have been reduced more than 40r ?. There is no question but that additional reductions will occur. Taxes Because of its operation in Cottage Grove and including School Dist. No. 45 the Company will pay during the year 1936 taxes in an amount approximating $5707.00. P ay roll Employees residing in Cottage Grove have, during the past year, received $8920.66 practically all of which was spent with local mer chants. *ps* ial M eeting fo r In sta lla tio n T he A m erican L egion a u x iliary held a special m ee tin g M onday e v en in g a t th e hom e of Mr* Jo e S m ith for th e p u rp o se of in sta llin g the re m a in d e r of new o ffice rs for th e e n su in g y ear. See these things before yo u buy. In addition to purchases by local employees a considerable amount of money is spent annually by the Company with Cottage Grove merchants. During the past 12 months period the amount so spent totaled $6203.64. The proposed franchise will be befo re you for consideration on August 4th. If approved it will of course be of value to the company in the same manner as a lease or contract is of value to any other business. It will grant authority to proceed with betterments and replacements and with the plan of continued improvement of ser vice It will be of value to the City in that it will make possible these betterments and improvements by the Company which might otherwise not be made. It is our best estimate that the 2% dross Earnings Tax demanded of the Com pany in the proposed Franchise will earn for the City more than $10,000.00 during the ten year period. The Franchise if approved retains for the City the privilege of acquiring the Electric System within five years if desired. The cost of the Special Election will be paid by the Company. Granting of the proposed franchise should be of mutual benefit. By H. C. WELLS, Local Manager MOUNTAIN STATES POWER COMPANY
