Here wl11 i Cottage Grove has received lota of publicity over the nation that haa cost ! it not a penny. Papers of the nation have carried stories about the big eggs produced ! by Cottage Grove hens. Papers over the nation have carried stories about the streets here being i paved with gold. Papers over the nation have carried stories about the ducks that had gold nuggets in their gizzards. Papers over the nation have carried stories about our round house. None of these stories would have reached the press of the nation except for a live newspaper employing a live news writer who knows how to dress up items so they will be accepted by the verions press services. Thousands of dollars in free pub licity have been received by Cottage Grove because its home newspaper has recognized the news value in little items to which the ordinary person might give little thought. The same things probably happen in many other cities, but there happens to be no one who thinks to get the items to the news services. Cottage Grove has a live newspaper principally because of the support of advertisers. Without advertisers there would be no newspaper, and no pub licity for your little city. The moral is plain—if you want free publicity for your city, patronize those responsible for giving your city a live newspaper.
