cause C harles C ochran w as listed
as d irector. Since he w as leading the
band the audience a t C ottage G rove
arm o rv could be sure of h e arin g a
splendid concert. I t also m ean t th a t
next T h u rsd ay n ig h t a n u m b er of
autom obiles would head o u t of E u ­
gene bound fo r C ottage G rove and
the concert.
C harles C ochran is one o f the
ra r e r m usicians, a co rn et virtuoso.
He used to plav in th e E ugene band
in th e early 90's. He w ent to the
P hilippines as a n arm y band m usi­
cian. A fter the w ar w as over, he
retu rn ed to E ugene and nlaved with
the F o u rth reg im en t m ilitia band.
He looks back also on service u n ­
d er world fam ous con d u cto rs —
D am rosch and Sousa. F o r y ears he
had his applicatio n in for m em ber­
ship in the U. S. M arine b an d —the
president's b a n d —but som ething al­
ways got in th e w av and he never
achieved th a t am bition. Bad b reak s

Even m ore im p o rta n t to the m usi­
cians th a n recollections of C harles
C o ch ran ’s specific ap p earan ces, is
the fact th a t he has alw ays been
active in prom oting m usical activ i­
ty in Lane county. He has alw ays
