glsberg. Cottage d ro v e tackle, re ­
covered a fum bled punt on S p ring-
field's seven-yard line. T h ree tries
a t the line failed to gain. On the
fo u rth down G ugglsberg took the
ball on a sneak play but was
stopped six inches fro m the goal
line and a touchdown.
S p rin gfield's only scoring threat
was on a m arch via the a e ria l
route. Bruce Squires, d im in u tiv e

several passes fo r good gains in

la k e and the M cK en zie and Des­
chutes rivers and do the packing if
the counties w ill pay fo r the crates,
tra n s p o rta tio n and storage, accord­
ing to a le tte r received by the
judge fro m H . L. M oreland, chief
cle rk fo r the commission.
Lane county Is w illin g to pay the
cost of the crates, about 80 cents
each, and tra n s p o rta tio n charges, If
storage can be obtained fo r keeping
the fish on hand, Judge B a rn a rd
stated th a t he would a tte m p t to
reach an agreem ent w ith Eugene
firm s w ith storage facilities to
handle the fish free of charge.
T h e W hitefish are said to be an
excellent food fish and a supply of
the fish a t low cost would be an
Im p o rta n t Item in spreading the
funds availab le fo r re lie f In the
county, the Judge declared.
W h ile according to the unem ploy­
m e n t survey made by J. M . Devers
o f the state h ig hw ay d ep artm en t
fo r G overno r M e ie r’s unem ploy­
m en t com m ittee showed Lane coun­
ty as havin g the most favorable
situ atio n in the state, the problem
here w ill not be an easy one, said
Judge B a rn a rd . I,a s t year the coun­
ty had 491 unemployed to care for.
w hile M r. Devers says the num ­
ber w ill reach 600 this w in te r. T h e
county has no w o rk to give the tnen
a t present nor is there lik e ly to be
a n y u n til the budget board has
settled on the am ount o f m oney to
be spent on roads in the county
d u rin g 1932, he stated. Road w o rk
is the ch ie f means o f creating w ork
fo r the unemployed.
