COTTAGE GROVE SENTINEL THI RSDAY. DECEMBER .30 1926. s tad news of their misdoings has any of the milk of human kindness that goes with religion. This newspaper can answer such as these by saving that it is within their own power to keep ljc H news out of newspapers by not creating news of that kind, that a newspaper’s readers have aright to know' what the citizens of their community are doing that is con trary to civil and moral laws, and that fear of newspaper publicity as a deterrent to crime is by itself sufficient reason for pub lishing news of offenses against the laws of God and man. In its editorial columns the newspaper shows itself as the great friend of the better interests of th«» community, of the things for which religion stands. A large proportion of all editorials are those that uplift, point a moral or urge readers . to better, nobler and higher things. The churches would be much weakened were this aid taken from them. A newspaper is decidedly a hand maiden of religion and of the churches and of all organizations that stand for law’, order, cleanli ness and ftp observance of the rules laid down in that groat book which shonld be the rule and guide ' of our faith. t j Nearby News i SUMMONS What Barnum Missed.
