Immediately following
his release from the city jail here
after serving a sentence of . 30
days upon a drunk and disorderly
charge, he was taken by the county
authorities upon a vagrancy charge
and was fined $50 in Justice
Young’s court. Hi' signified his
intention to lay out the fine and
was taken to the county jail,
District Attorney Medley was here
to prosecute the case.
Patton was the first one in
many years to serve out a term
of any length in the city jail
and the city consequently had the
biggest board bill for prisoners
it has had for many years. Even
then Chief of Police Pitcher didn’t
provide any luxuries. Tho police
judge and chief of police some time
ago discontinued the practice of
extending credit for the payment
of fines and the city bastile has
had boarders most of the time
since.
