As ho replaced the cover tho explosion occurred, probably- from tho friction reuse.I by replacing the cover. The fumea in the can evidently caught fire and caused the burns, Mr. Harvev saw no flames. Burns wore of the fi rat degree and, provided there are no compli- cations, he may be well on the road to recovery within a woek. Ho was burned on tho back of the neck, behind tho right ear, on the side of the face, under tho right eye and in the right corner of the mouth. Mr. Harvey was nblc to walk to tho office of Dr. Dyott to havo the injuries dressed and is able to bo down town. Tho building housing tho clean ing establishment did not catch fire. Diphtheria Carrier Is Officer’s Fear. Health Officer Frost is of the opinion that there is a carrier of diphtheria in tho city who is re sponsible for tho sporadic out breaks of tho disease during tho past several months. Thoro are several new eases at Dorenn, whero cultures were taken today from the children in the schools. Mary Elizabeth Lasswell, daugh- tre of Mr. and Mrs. 8. 8. Lasswell, is the only positive case here, although another child who was in the same grade in tho schools Ims been ordered to romain at homo. Tho Lasswell child is reported as not dangerously ill. Hung Jury Results in Wayne Kirk Case. A hung jury resulted in the Cano against Wayne Kirk, tried last week at Roseburg.
