Co. D, Cottage Grove, was one
of the topnotchers in the mobiliza

state held Tuesday night under or
ders from Adjutant General White.
Every member of the company with
the exception of five who are out
side of the military districts on fur
lough, were in line by 8 o’clock.
The order was received at 5 o'clock.
It is possible that this record beats
any in the state and it is certain
that the local company was at least
second.
Members of the company knew
that such an order was to come but
thoy had had no bint of the time
it would be received. The men were
gotten into line by bugle calls, by
the use of telephone and by sending
messengers to those who could bo
reached in no other way.
Sixty-throe men and three officers
were on hand. Tho total member
ship of the company is 68 men and
throe officers. The percentage of
those in line was 92.65.
The purpose of tho mobilization
was to test tho efficiency of the
military forces in mobilizing in case
of an emergency.
A silver cup is to be presented
to the company which had the
largest percentage of men in line at
8 o'clock and another cup for tho

Mr. and Mrs. 8. L. Godard, seems
to be tho original hard luck kid.
Following several minor acci
dents ho recently underwent n
major operation. Three weeks ago
ho sustained an injured ankle
when he fell from his father’s
hip. Two weeks ago the little
fellow was found with a stick of
giant powder in his hand which
he hud mistuki'n for candy. He
had bitten off some of it but
evidently had swallowed none, as
serious results follow when nitro
glycerine gets into the system.
The box of giant powder, which
had been safely put away, hud
boon taken down temporarily
»nd left in a place whero the lad
could get at it.
A few days ago the little fel
low was walking in the yard,
having hold of the hand of his
brother Harry. Ho stumbled nnd
a clean fracture of the right
lower limb resulted.
The father says he thinks that
when the little fellow becomes
grown he will have an easy time
of it for there will be nothing
left to happen to him.

DISTRICT ATTORNEY 8 OAR
Motorists who wish to burn up
tho
highway
while
passing
through Lane county should have
a care that they do not attempt
to pass a cur which District At
torney Clydo Johnston is driving.
Philip Hurth, of Roseburg, will
testify to tho truth of this
statement, ns ho had that ex-
porienco and left *15 in the
justice court here ns proof of the
fact. Johnston made the state
ment that anyone who attempted
to pass him hail to violate tho
law as he usually drives barely
within tho limit.
