HAND AND GUSTAVO WILL
WRESTLE HERE APRIL 26
Ralph Hand, of Cottage Grove,
and Ad Gustavo, of Portland, both
claimants of the state middleweight
wrestling championship, will meet
in this city on the night of April
26 for a finish match, the winner
to take all of the gate receipts.
Hand and Gustavo have mot
twice. Hand defeated Gustavo at
Gold Hill in their first tangle and
Gustavo defeated Hand in this city
in their second match, Hand get
ting a broken rib in the final fall.
Both matches were at catch weights,
a circumstance somewhat to Gus
tavo’s advantage, but ho has agreed
to make 165 pounds for this match,
which will put these two burly bone
busters on a more equal footiug
in the weight.
This match will undoubtedly be
the most interesting sporting event
of the year in mat circles, ns it will
practically decide the state middle
weight championship, even though
Gustavo is wrestling ut slightly
above the middleweight figure,
aud will therefore have some ad
vantage over Hand, who is n nat
ural middleweight. This match has
long been anticipated by upper val
ley fans and friends of the local
favorite are confident that after
this match Hand will be the un
disputed champion middleweight of
Oregon and a more formidable con
tender for the middleweight cham
pionship of the world.
MANY VETERANS FAIL TO
BENEFIT BY STATE BONUS
Records show that there are sev
eral hundred veterans or relatives
of veterans whe have not made ap
plication for benefits from the Ore
gon state bonus. The state aid com
mission is anxious to close up all
claims for the cash bonus as
promptly as possible, but is more
anxious that no one be overlooked.
Many parents and wives of de
ceased veterans have failed to send
in their application* for the reason
that they have had no one to take
a person interest in them and to
assist them in obtaining that to
which they may be rightfully en
titled. A recent ruling has been
made exter.Jing the time limit for
filing applications to December 31,
1623. Application blanks and infor
■nation may be obtained on request
at the Red Cross office in Eugene,
where assistance in filling out the
blanks will be given.
Upper Willamette Road Repaired.
The upper Willamette river road
above Oakridge is now open for
travel. The freshet in December
washed out several parts, repairs
on which have been completed. Fish
ing is unusually good on the upper
Willamette during the fore part of
the season and the opening of the
road just now is welcome news to
anglers.
