Mr. Spong w as born in L ogansport,
Iud., Jan u ary 17, 1850, an d crossed the
plains w ith his parents iu 1851. The
fam ily settled in M arion county. He
w as m arried iu 1873 to S arah Brum
baugh and soon afte rw ard s they moved
to D ine county. The follow ing childreu
