26 — THE CHRONICLE THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2019 HEALTH & WELLNESS ANGLER’S LOG COMMUNITY ADVERTORIAL CONTENT Is it downsizing season yet? With the rain settling upon us a bit earlier than usual, we have to admit it is time to stay closer to home – and for longer periods of time due to the shorter days. What to do in the house with all those extra hours? DIANA MARARIE Maybe it’s time to take a stab at the downsizing proj- ect you have been anticipating, but discreetly stepping around. It’s so easy to procrastinate, yet what is also true is that once begun, the process can be very energizing. Living around a lot of things that one no longer uses (or even sees) can subtly drain our energy, while paring down to the point where you are familiar with everything in your home and know where to find it can be comforting. Part of that sense of being overwhelmed that many people feel when faced with down- sizing is the question of where to begin, or how to begin. One truism to remember when you ask yourself, day after day, “How to begin?” is to remember that old question: “How do you eat an elephant?” Answer: “One bite at a time.” With the holidays still a month away, now might be a good time to start exercising those downsizing muscles. You may want to start by doing closets only. And if overwhelmed by that, start with the top shelf, the next time do the hanging clothes, and the next time items on the floor. Breaking down tasks into manageable pieces helps you keep your focus and also see progress. And progress can inspire you to take on the next area, knowing that it can’t possi- bly be done all at once – but just like eating an elephant, it can be done.
