SPRINGFIELD 16 — THE CHRONICLE THURSDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2019 75 & feelin’ fine The storm clouds parted and the sun was shining Sunday as Willamalane Park & Recreation District celebrated its 75th anniversary with a sprawling community hoopla at Willamalane Park in Springfi eld. The free event drew a large crowd throughout the day, enjoying live music, carnival rides, face painting, axe-throwing and more. Foodtrucks, a beer garden, and VFW Broiler Fest- style chicken were available for attendees to enjoy as well as a mobile video game experience. At right, after patiently awaiting his turn, WIllamalane’s own mascot squirrel slips down the Super Slide. Below, teenagers scream with glee as they race up and down the course in infl atable spheres, and roaming magician Jeff Evans, from Washington, wows a small crowd of boys with card tricks and sleight-of-hand shenanigans.
