VRFPD September 15 2022 Vernonia Rural Fire Protection District September is National Preparedness Month With a turn of the calendar into Sep- tember, National Preparedness Month is here. This year, the Oregon Department of Emergency Management is asking Oregonians to plan today, to be ready tomorrow. The agency is asking Orego- nians to take steps to prepare for all types of emergencies and disasters. Over the last several years, Oregon has experi- enced losses and impacts from historic emergencies and disasters. Recent floods, wildfires, excessive heat, ice storms, and drought remind us of the importance of preparedness. Oregonians should take steps to be 2 Weeks Ready, having an emergency plan and enough food, water, and supplies to survive for at least two weeks following any disaster. Preparing for an emergency doesn’t have to cost a lot; there are many simple and effective low-cost and no-cost actions Oregonians can take today to be ready for tomor- row. Examples include enabling Wireless Emergency Alerts on cell phones, iden- tifying evacuation routes, making copies of important documents, watching pre- paredness videos, knowing how to per- form first aid, and getting to know neigh- bors and community resources. Being prepared means more than just gathering supplies; it also means having a plan, be- ing informed, being aware of risks, and knowing how to get information. The Oregon Department of Emergency Man- agement has a wide range of prepared- ness tips. Annual 9/11 March VOLUNTEERS WANTED VERNONIA RURAL FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT Vernonia Rural Fire Protection District and Vernonia Ambulance staff and volunteers took part in the annual 9/11 remembrance. VRFPD is currently accepting applications for Volunteer Fire Fighters • You must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D., a valid Oregon Driver’s License, and be at least 18 years of age VRFPD Board Meetings Are Held on the Second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm. The next regular meeting is scheduled for October 11 at the fire station, 555 E.
