To the Editor, I would like to take this opportu- nity to recognize a very special person in the Vernonia community. His name is Claude LeRiche, the father of Donna Gehrke Webb. Claude has been a part of our community for many years and is often seen en route to the downtown cor- ridor either on foot, bicycle, or his elec- tric scooter chair. He always has a smile and wave for his passerbyers. He was recognized as “Citizen of the Month” February 2022 for his volunteer projects around town, specifically the beautiful wooden benches gifted to the City for many to enjoy. I was particularly amazed to see Claude recently weedeating the pedestri- an path and entry way to California Av- enue. And then weeding and grooming the oval garden area at the entrance to the Vernonia Lake/Mill Pond and sweeping the sidewalk along the Webb Bench area. There are many attributes that one must have to be a good leader and one of those being, “to lead by example”. Claude is definitely one of those people. He does not seek any monetary or even verbal recognition. He simply wants to help Vernonia “look like someone cares”. Thank you Claude for all you do to help make Vernonia a better place to live. You are a true inspiration for me. I ask the community, if you ever cross paths with Claude, give him a friendly pat on the back and tell him THANKS. Columbia Humane Society Featured Dog Miss Muffin is an approximately 7 year old, DSH female tabby with a white stomach and markings. She is spayed, micro- chipped and current on vaccinations. She is healthy and very well vetted, including recent bloodwork. She is currently in a foster home since her previous owner was hospitalized and unable to care for her. Miss Muffin loves most to sit on laps of adults and children and responds well to new people. She craves petting and being near people. She touches noses with her foster mom and plays with her cat chaser and da bird toys. Clean and easy to care for, she needs to be the only cat as she does not get along with other cats. She has no history of being with dogs so being the only pet would suit her best. She will make a wonderful companion. This handsome three year old boy is looking to find his forever home. This guy does great with other dogs, kids and cats. He is going to require a fenced yard and would prefer to have a home where he has a job to perform. This guy has a ton of energy and also a ton of love to give on a daily basis. He loves to be with his people and will make a great addition to any family.
