One bright spot for the squad is freshman Brylie Hewitt at middle blocker, who is still learning the position, but shows promise, especially after a strong performance in a loss to Knappa where she made a number of strong defensive plays. Williams has been focusing on serving as a strong offensive weapon, and working to improve team passing. “Kortnie took over as our setter, because she knows what the team needs, and I really appreciate that about her,” says Williams. “She tries to get the team fired up on the court, and leader- ship-wise she’s doing a great job. Momi has a lot of potential. She always hustles and will always go after the ball. Right now Torey is our leading scorer. Jessika has a strong arm and this year her attacking has definitely improved.” The Lady Loggers have a 1-2 record in Northwest League play and a 1-11 record overall after earning their first win of the season over Mannahouse Christian 3-0 on September 12. They are scheduled to host Gaston and Chemawa on September 17 in a 3-way match. Other upcoming home matches include Clatskanie (a new mem- ber of the NW League) on September 22, Mannahouse Christian on October 1, and Faith Bible on October 6. The Vernonia Logger Stadium Project is making great progress, and the Steering Committee is excited to announce they are close to breaking ground on Phase 1 – a Concession Stand and Restroom facility to accommodate all outdoor sports and their fans. A design and plans for the building has been approved and the hope is to have the project constructed and ready to use in time for the spring sports season. The project has already raised nearly $300,000.
