To the Editor, It is with a mix of sadness and gratitude that the Amani Center Board of Directors announces Ms. Cassy Miller’s departure as Executive Director, effective June 2, 2021. Since 2008, Cassy has played a critical role in the development and success of the organization, and while we will miss her and her inspiring leadership, we wish her the best of luck in her new endeavor as the Statewide Programs Manager with Oregon Child Abuse Solutions. We want to thank her for her 13+ years of dedicated service, as well as the significant accomplishments and impact she has contrib- uted to the organization. We could not be more proud of the unprecedented growth the Amani Center has experienced during Cassy’s tenure as Executive Director. Cassy’s leadership skills and collaborative approach have been tremendous assets, and we wish Cassy the very best of luck as she moves onto the next chapter of her career. The Amani Center Board of Directors are excited to announce that they have appointed the current Amani Cen- ter Program Manager, Amelia Kercher, as Interim Executive Director effective June 3, 2021. Kercher’s immense under- standing of the Amani Center’s work, as well as her estab- lished relationships with community partners will allow for an effective leadership transition during Miller’s departure. We cannot thank Cassy enough for the dedication, passion, enthusiasm, and motivation she has given dur- ing her years with the Amani Center. Cassy will be greatly missed by the staff, Board, clients, and partners alike. We look forward to following the success of Cassy’s career and are hopeful and excited for the next chapter of the Amani Stan Mendenhall Chair, Board of Directors Amani Center HOW TO SEND LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Vernonia’s Voice welcomes and requests your thoughts, opinions and ideas. Dates are subject to change Columbia Humane Society Featured Dog Kiwi is about three years old and has personality for days. She loves to talk and loves to get brushed. She did well with kids in her previous home. There is a lot of this girl to love as she weighs in right around 22 lbs. We have had diagnostics done by our vet and determined that she just really, really likes to eat. In her previous home she was living with other cats and dogs and was always guarding all the food bowls; she is what we call a competition eater. The perfect home for Kiwi will be where she is the only animal. We are looking for a home that is committed to getting the weight off and continually working with her on exercise and a proper eating plan. Right now she is unable to groom herself, so a family that is committed to grooming her is prefered. If you are interested in meeting Kiwi we ask that you please email adoption@columbiahumane.org in order to obtain an adoption application. Once we have an approved application on file we will then schedule a time for you to come and meet her. Please note that due to our small staff and time constraints, phone calls regarding adoptions are not returned. Email is our best method of communication. Kiwi's adoption fee is $125 which includes her spay, current vaccines, treatment for fleas and worms, and microchip. If you rent your home we will also be checking with landlords and checking vet references. Purr-fect Pals Center as we continue to support our community partners in your important work to end child abuse. If you have any questions or concerns during this transition process, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly. We have a sound strategic plan in place and a strong team of individuals remaining with the organization. We re- main profoundly optimistic about the long-term vision and future of the Amani Center. 2084 Oregon Street, St. Helens, OR 97051 Hey Hey Hey! Buddy is the name and being a spitfire is my game. I’m a very sweet one year old 50 lb lab mix that is looking for that sweet soft spot to land. My life previous to CHS didn’t provide a place to run, a yard of my own, or lots of patience and love. When I first came to CHS I was pretty unsure, hadn’t met many strangers, and I was just plain scared. Sometimes when I meet new people I can be a little standoffish and will even growl. I’m pretty good at communicat- ing how I feel and don’t respond well to negative reiforcement training. I’m unsure when I meet new dogs. I do know how to sit and the trainers at the shelter are building on that. My ideal family would probably work from home, so that I don’t have to be alone very much at least in the beginning. I am looking for a fenced yard and I don’t want to live with a kitty, because I just want to chase them. I would like a family that is looking for a true Buddy, I just want to be a pal – someone who will understand, be patient, and protect me. If you are interested in meeting Buddy we ask that you please email adoption@columbiahuamane.org in order to obtain an application. Once you have an approved application on file, we will then schedule a time for you to come out and meet with Buddy. Please note that we will require vet and landlord references. Buddy’s adoption fee is $250 which includes his neuter, treatment for fleas and worms, and microchip. E-mail: info@columbiahumane.org Web: www.columbiahumane.org
