On the Shelves

Library Clean-Up Day
I would like to take a moment to recognize
some of our hard working volunteers. We
had a crew of community members come
to the Library the week of April 11 - 17, and
transform the grounds: pressure washing,
weeding, spreading bark chips, and picking
up litter. Thank you to Rick and Linda
Hobart, Donna and Dale Webb, Don Webb,
Cici Bell, Liz Vogel, and Austin Baille. Thank
you to Barney and Lynn Hayes for creating,
planting, and donating, two cedar planters
for the Library courtyard. And thank you
to Cory Colburn for volunteering time and
materials to fix our Library shed door. So
happy to have you all as fellow community
members. You certainly help make the
Library and Vernonia shine!
Summer Reading Coming Soon
Library staff is planning our annual Summer
Reading program! This year’s theme is
“Reading Colors Your World.” First day of
Summer Reading will be Monday, June 14.
Children, birth - age 14 are invited to sign-
up for our reading incentive program. We
are also in the process of booking children’s
performers. Programs will be held outside
at Hawkins Park. Outdoor storytime in the
Library courtyard will be on Wednesdays at
10:30 am, starting June 16. We are looking
Did You Know: Friends of the Library
Annual Book Sale
The Friends of the Vernonia Library are in the
process of planning their annual book sale
for Jamboree weekend. The book sale is a
fundraiser for the Library and also provides
a service to the community, recycling books
and dvds locally. Now is a great time to
look through your shelves and see if there
is anything you would like to donate to the
sale. We are looking both for book and dvd
donations and volunteers for the sale. If
interested in helping out, please contact the
Library (503) 429-1818.
