hope all is well with you and yours.
AS WITH ANY organization
it’s always sad to have to say
goodbye, and in our case, to
someone who has been an
integral part of our Board’s
decision making for these past
important transitional years. We
wish to thank LARRY BERNARDI,
a long time member of this
community, for all his expertise
and input especially during this
building process that is due to be
completed in July. All the best
to you Larry, and all of us look
forward to seeing you at our new
Center.
A BIG SHOUT OUT to all our
wonderful community members,
and others who care about
our Senior community who
generously kicked in and donated
much needed and appreciated
dollars to help sustain us
through the closure of our thrift
store; Bargains on Bridge Street
generates the income necessary
for our Home Delivered Meals

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
BEFORE THE PLANNING COMMISSION
Proposed Zoning Code Amendment
in the City of Vernonia, File No. PA 20-02
When: Planning Commission - July 16, 2020 at 7:00 pm
Tentatively, City Council - July 20, 2020 at 7:00 pm
Where: Council Chambers, City of Vernonia, 1001 Bridge Street, Vernonia, OR.
Special COVID 19 procedures will be in place, everyone must be at least 6 feet apart.
Why: An applicant has proposed a Zoning Code Amendment to Chapter 9-01 of
Title 9 to revise the permitted uses in the General Commercial Zone, 9-01.03-40.B,
Conditional Uses Permitted, subsection 6. Currently residential uses are only allowed
as a conditional use when located over a permitted business. The applicant is proposing
to change this to allow residential uses on the ground floor with a permitted business, as
long as the residential use has a separate dedicated entrance.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Vernonia Planning Commission and City
Council, will conduct a public hearing on a request by Troy Thomas to amend the
Zoning Code as it relates to Chapters 9-01 of Title 9 to alter a conditionally permitted
use in the General Commercial Zone.
SAID PUBLIC HEARING will be held before the Vernonia Planning Commission on
Thursday, July 16, 2020, and tentatively before the City Council on Monday, July 20,
2020 in the Council Chambers of Vernonia City Hall, 1001 Bridge Street, Vernonia,
Oregon at or after 7:00 pm, at which time proponents and opponents of the proposed
Zone Code Amendment will be heard.
A staff report will be available to the public at City Hall one week before the hearings,
and may be copied for a nominal fee. Failure to raise an issue in a hearing, in person
or by letter or failure to provide statements or evidence sufficient to afford the
decision-maker an opportunity to respond to the issue precludes appeal to the Land
Use Board of Appeals (LUBA) based on that issue. Public testimony is welcome, and
written statements will also be received before the hearing.
The meeting location is accessible to persons with disabilities. A request for an
interpreter for the hearing impaired or for other accommodations for persons with
disabilities should be made at least 48 hours prior to the public hearing to Stephanie
Borst at 503-429-5291 ext. 105, TTY 1-800-735-2900 or at City Hall, 1001 Bride
Street, Vernonia, OR 97064.
