4 community bulletin board may21 2020 Columbia Humane Society Update The Board of Directors and staff of the Columbia Humane Society (CHS) would like to take a moment to thank everyone in Columbia County and beyond for all the support during these troubling unprecedented times. We have seen some amazing adopters be willing, for all the right reasons, to bring new fam- ily members into their homes. We have had some wonderful donors who have been very supportive of our mission and what we are trying to accomplish for the people and the pets of Columbia County. We have had some amazing foster homes that have stepped up and been willing to take animals in to give them a chance to thrive in a home environment – for all of this and more we can never thank you all enough. With Columbia County being given the green light to enter Phase I of re-opening we have been asked on sev- eral occasions when the shelter will be opening again. For right now, it has been the collective decision of both the Board of Directors and the staff to not re-open the lobby or the cattery to the public or volunteers at this time. We feel that due to the size of these areas we will be un- able to follow proper social distanc- ing protocols putting both our staff and our visitors at risk. This does not mean that we won’t continue our life saving work. We will remain open for adoptions and owner surrenders as we have since March, everything will still just continue to happen by appointment only. Adoption screenings will start by email or phone calls, followed up by appointments for people to come and meet the pets that they are interested in if they are good matches for your home. CHS will continue to accept do- nations. There is a green bin in front of the shelter and we ask that donations be put in that bin. A staff member will get the donations out of the bin. We ask that if you would like a receipt mailed to you that you please leave a note on the do- nations with your name and address, as well as the value of your donation. We will be more than happy to send you a tax receipt. Again we can’t thank you all enough for your support and your do- nations. Please don’t forget our virtual fundraiser you can sign up for at www. pets2therescue.org. Registration will be open until June 8 and 100% of the pro- ceeds will go to CHS. Also please be on the lookout for possible fundraisers that will be coming up in the community as well. Everyone please stay safe and healthy.
