In Memory of...
E. M. Long
E.M. Long, 72, a resident of
Monticello, Georgia, died Friday morn-
ing, April 24, 2020 at the Sacred Journey
Hospice in McDonough, Georgia.
Private Interment Rites were
held on Friday, May 1, 2020 at 2:00 pm
at the Vernonia Memorial Cemetery,
2080 Bridge Street in Vernonia, Oregon.
E.M. LONG was born March 5,
1948 in Longview, Washington, the son
of the late Elvin A. Long and Thelma
Juneal (Parcel) Long. He was raised and
received his early education in the Ver-
nonia community, having been a gradu-
ate of the Vernonia High School Class of
1966. He later attended Clayton College
and University in Morrow, Georgia, and
received a Bachelor of Science degree in
Information Technology.
He joined the United States
Army and served for three years. He
worked on the Pershing Missiles Sys-
tem while stationed in Germany. He re-
ceived his honorable discharge while at
the rank of SP5(P).
E.M. was united in marriage to
Delores Clement on February 11, 1989
in Morrow, Georgia.
They celebrated their 31 st wed-
ding anniversary this past February.
They resided in Stockbridge, Jonesboro,
and McDonough locations until 2018,
when they moved to Monticello, where
they resided until his death.
He had worked for Delta Air-
lines for 30 years starting on the ramp
working his way up into Reservations
Marketing and Sales until he retired in
2000. He then enjoyed being Santa to

opening this summer presuming the current
health crisis has abated. We are starting our
search for two part-time paid positions.
Head Cook:
The Position: We’re looking for an experienced cook to prepare
meals for both home delivery and for in-center lunchtime dining.
While patrons must be sixty and older, paid staff can be any age, 18
and above. Starting pay is $15/hour for a 15 – 18 hour work week on
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Requirements: Previous experience in institutional cooking is re-
quired and knowledge of USDA requirements for senior meals is
preferred. We also prefer several years’ experience in planning and
ordering food supplies. A food handler’s certificate and background
check are required.
Responsibilities: Prepare meals per the provided rotation menus
using recipes that meet USDA requirements. Perform all aspects from
prep work through end of day cleanup.
The Location: Vernonia Senior Center on Weed Avenue. This is a
brand new building with all new commercial kitchen facilities.
Office Administrator:
The Position: We’re looking for an experienced office administra-
tor with a range of skills including bookkeeping/accounting, report
preparation, newsletter editing and publication, facility scheduling for
the Senior Center and assistant scheduler for the Cabin in Vernonia,
social media and website management, and good telephone and
interpersonal skills. Starting pay is $15/hour for a 15 – 18 hour work
week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Requirements: Previous experience in a professional office setting
using Microsoft Office Word and Excel. Quickbooks experience a
definite plus. Familiarity with website setup and maintenance. Ex-
cellent writing skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. A
background check is required.
Responsibilities: Open and close center three days per week (Mon-
day, Wednesday and Friday). Perform meal sign-in tasks. Process
meal donations and thrift store sales receipts. Pay center bills timely.
Prepare monthly newsletter for members. Schedule home-delivered
meal drivers. Other duties as assigned by Board of Directors.

York, Virginia, and everywhere he went
in his daily life, until his health prevent-
ed him from doing so.
In addition to being a faithful
member of Stockbridge United Meth-
odist Church for many years, E.M. had
many hobbies. In his early years he en-
joyed participating in gymnastics in high
school as well as coaching it and enjoy-
ing it with his daughters for many years.
He also spent a good deal of time bik-
ing. He used to ride his bike to and from
work each day which was quite a daily
distance from Stockbridge, Georgia to
the Delta office in Hapeville, Georgia.
In his more leisurely down time, he was
often found reading a book, or learning.
E.M. was a lifelong student of life. He
read many books on philosophy, the-
ology, science and technology, and of
course, his favorite, science fiction genre
for fun.
He was preceded in death by his
parents, Elvin and Thelma Long; by his
wife of 15 years Shirley Long; by his
son Andrew Long; by his sister Barbara
Fregoso, his brother Neal Long, and his
brother-in-law Claude Weaver.
Survivors include his wife De-
lores Long of the family home in Mon-
