Ronald D. Smith, scheduled for
March 21, 2020, has been post-

Neil
Elton
Lloyd
passed away on October 26,
2019 in his home on Heather
Lane in Vernonia with his faith-
ful cat Blue by his side.
A Celebration of Life
will be held, Sunday, May 3,
2020 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at the
Scout Cabin, 901 Park Drive,
Vernonia, Oregon 97064.
Neil was born and
raised in Vernonia until the mill
closed in the late 50s. His fami-
ly relocated to Seaside and Neil
attended Seaside High School.
In his senior year, they moved
to Bradwood, Oregon and he
graduated from Knappa High
School in 1961.
Neil worked various
jobs until he moved to Au-
burn, Washington in 1965 and
he went to work for The Boe-
ing Company. He worked in
the Tooling Department and
then transferred to Quality As-
surance where he worked as a
tooling inspector. In addition to
working his regular job, for sev-
eral years Neil taught classes to
Boeing employees in Blueprint
Reading and Precision Measur-
ing Instruments. Later in his ca-
reer, he worked as an outsource
inspector, traveling to differ-
ent vendors throughout the
United States inspecting parts
at the vendor’s factory. He re-
tired from Boeing in 1995 and
moved to Seaside, Oregon.
Neil’s hobby and pas-
sion were working with beauti-
ful stones and he was a master
at faceting beautiful cuts on
precious stones. He moved to
Vernonia in 2007 and opened
a rock shop in downtown Ver-
nonia. In his little shop, he
enjoyed meeting new people,
teaching lapidary classes, and
reconnecting with old friends
that he grew up with. Neil loved
Vernonia.
Neil also had a love for
books, especially history books.
He was an avid reader and
proudly served on the Vernonia
Library Board for several years.
Neil is survived by his
sister Roberta Elliott; daughters
Shawn Brewer and Jennifer Fla-
nagan; granddaughters Saman-
tha Conklin, Sandra Braunel,
Quninnel Flanagan, and Maisie
Flanagan; numerous nieces and
nephews, and cousins. He was
predeceased in death by his par-
ents, Jewell and Hazel Lloyd,
brother Pat Lloyd, and sister
Nancy Dailey.

Shirley Ann Goodman
Shirley Ann Goodman,
68, a resident of the Vernonia
community, died Saturday af-
ternoon, February 29, 2020 at
her home in Vernonia.
A Celebration of Life
Service was held on Saturday,
March 14, 2020 at 2:00 pm at
Grace Family Fellowship, 967
State Avenue, Vernonia, Or-
egon. Pastor Mac was officiat-
ing.
Shirley Ann Goodman
was born April 21, 1951 in
Timber, Oregon, the daughter
of the late John Jackson Sr. and
Bertha Mae Gilbert. She was
raised and received her educa-
tion in the Vernonia community
in her early life, having been a
graduate of the Hillsboro High
School Class of 1969.
She was united in mar-
riage to Paul “Skip” Clinton
Goodman on March 2, 1970
in Kelso, Washington. Follow-
ing their marriage, they resided
in the community of Vernonia,
where they had lived since.
They were three days short of
celebrating their 50 th wedding
anniversary this year.
During her life, she had
worked at Viewmaster, she was
a homemaker while her children
were at home, and she worked
at H&R Block until she retired.
Shirley was a member
of the Grace Family Fellow-
ship located in Vernonia and
was also a member of both the
Vernonia Ridge Riders and the
Forest Grove Ranch Riders.
Among her special in-
terests she enjoyed horseback
riding, camping, hunting, and
going clam digging at the beach.
Shirley was preceded
in death by her parents, John
and Bertha Jackson; her daugh-
ter Deann Goodman; and her
brothers, Frank Jackson, John
Jackson, and Arthur Jackson.
Survivors include her
husband Paul Goodman of the
family home in Vernonia; her
children and their spouses, Jef-
frey and Karin Goodman of
Vernonia, Jared Goodman of
Diboll, Texas; her sisters and
brothers-in-law, Janice Emery
of Hillsboro, Oregon, Nadine
Ricter of Forest Grove, Oregon,
and JoAnn and Clifford Chap-
man of Kalama, Washington.
Also surviving are
Shirley’s grandchildren, Jef-
fry Goodman Jr, Jessika Reece,
and Katherine Goodman; along
with many nieces and nephews.
There was a viewing
Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at the
Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt chapel lo-
cated in Forest Grove.

Patricia L. “Nonnie”
Michener, 84, a former resi-
dent of the Coos Bay commu-
nity, late of McMinnville, died
Thursday evening, March 12,
2020 at her home surrounded
by her family.
Private
Cremation
Rites were held at the Hoyt Cre-
matory in Forest Grove. A Cel-
ebration of Life will be sched-
uled at a future date.
Pat L. Michener was
born January 22, 1936 in Lang-
don, North Dakota, the daughter
of the late Mindy J. Bjornson
and Ruby (Moore) Bjornson.
She was raised and received her
education in the Vernonia com-
munity, having been a graduate
of the Vernonia High School
Class of 1954. She then went
to college, having received her
certification as a Licensed Prac-
tical Nurse.
Pat raised her two chil-
dren in Vernonia, Oregon until
she chose to move to the place
she loved the most, the coast.
She resided in Coos Bay, Or-
egon, where she worked at St.
Catherine’s in North Bend, first

Formerly Prickett’s Mortuary
as a nurse and then as man-
ager of Evergreen Court, and
later the Alzheimer’s Center in
Coos Bay until her retirement.
Throughout those special years,
Pat was known as a beloved
caregiver and friend to the Sis-
ters of Mercy and countless
residents and families under her
care.
In 2013, she moved to
the Forest Grove community,
where she lived for four years,
until 2017, when she moved to
the McMinnville community
with her daughter, Bethann,
where she had resided since.
While living in the
Coos Bay community, Pat was
an active member of St. Moni-
ca’s Catholic Church, as well as
serving the parish as a eucharis-
tic minister.
Among her special in-
terests, Pat loved the ocean,
the rain, and Dean Martin. She
loved scrabble, crosswords, and
other puzzles and card games.
Pat never missed an episode
of Jeopardy and loved Danc-
ing with The Stars. She secret-
ly loved watching boxing and
MMA fights when no one was
looking. But most of all she
enjoyed her family, especially
spending time with her grand-
children and great-grandchil-
dren.
Pat was preceded in
death by her son, Gary Mi-
chener; her parents, Mindy and
Ruby Bjornson; and her sister
Janice Alvarado.
Survivors include her
daughter Bethann Michener of
McMinnville, Oregon, and her
daughter-in-law Debbie Mi-
chener of Coos Bay, Oregon.
Also surviving are her
grandchildren, Justin Pickering
and his fiancée Sheena Bills of
Forest Grove, Oregon, Brooke
Pickering and her spouse Isaac
Dawson of Vernonia, Oregon,
and Mindy Michener of Med-
ford, Oregon; her six great-
grandchildren, Taylor Picker-
ing, Andrew Harrison, Addison
Harrison, Quinn Dawson, Am-
ber Pickering, Tyrone Bills, and
Robert Bills; and her niece and
nephews, Yvonne Keinonen of
Hillsboro, Oregon, Scott Mason
of Helena, Montana, and Kevin
Mason of Vernonia, Oregon;
along with countless great niec-
es and nephews.
The family suggests
that remembrances may be con-
tributions to the Alzheimer As-
sociation, 1650 NW Naito Park-
way, Portland, Oregon 97209,
in her memory.
