12 schools april4 2019 VHS Spring Sports Report Track and Field – The Vernonia boys took 1 st place at the Northwest League Relays at Neah-Kah-Nie against six competing teams on March 21 and the Vernonia girls finished 3 rd . The boys swept the high jump with Abram Martin winning the event with a Personal Record (PR) of 6’0” while Jake Handegard and Pete Crystal tied for second after both clearing 5’8”. In the long jump Gunnar Harral won, Re- dek Zikmund finsihed 2 nd and Kale Sul- livan took 4 th . In the triple jump, Martin took 2 nd and Nick Costley finished 4 th . Crystal won the pole vault Handegard won the 1,500 and freshman Cody West was the surprise 2 nd place finisher, competing in his very first track meet. Jordan Miller won the 300 hurdles. The boys 4x100 re- lay, run by Josh Rice, Sullivan, Harral, and Crystal won their event. The 4x200 meter re- lay composed of Rice, Harral, Abraham Kpirkai, and Elijah Thompson finished 2 nd , and the 4x400 relay with Handegard, Martin, Kpirlkai and Sullivan also finished 2 nd . In throwing events Sullivan took 2 nd and Zik- mund finished 4 th in the javelin. Thompson took 4 th and Dustin Carreon took 5 th in the shot put. Jayden Largent placed 2 nd and Carreon took 5 th in the discus. For the girls Sadie Gump took 3 rd in the 1,500. Hailay Reynolds fin- Left: Joyce Everett, Right: Shane Lardy nd ished 2 and Isabelle Coleman took 6 th in the 300 hurdles. The girls 4x100 relay, made up of McKenzie Picker- ing, Zoe Whiteman, Anika Suppes, and Coleman, finished 4 th . The Loggerbots, team #4127, won 5 and lost 7 of their 12 matches and finished the event in 19 th place out of 36 teams. The Loggerbots ended their season in 133 rd place overall out of 151 teams in the Pacific Northwest District and did not qualify for the District Championship.
