On the Shelves
By Shannon Romtvedt
The Vernonia Public Library is now
offering Inter-Library Loan (ILL), a
new option for patrons interested
in checking out books or dvds that
are not available in our Library
collection. ILL is a good fit for
patrons that stay close to Vernonia
and don’t make trips out of town
often enough to make use of the
Passport program. The Passport
program allows Vernonia Library
patrons to receive free cards at
participating Passport Libraries,
which include Multnomah County,
Washington County, St. Helens,
Scappoose, and more. Using the
Passport program, the patron is
responsible for picking up and
returning materials to the owning
Library or Library system.
ILL allows patrons to request
a book, audiobook, or dvd, not
found in our collection, directly from
our Library. ILL patrons must be at
least 18 years old with an active card
and no fines. Each request is $2.00 to
cover shipping costs, no more than
two requests at a time. So far the
Library has received ILL materials for
patrons from Multnomah County
Libraries, Washington County
Libraries, Clackamas County, and
King County Library systems.
If the title you are interested
in is current year, a classic, or
you think it would be of interest
specifically to the Vernonia
community, another option we offer
is a purchase request. Purchase
requests help us know what the
community is interested in reading
or seeing at the Library. There is no
cost to submit a purchase request,
but if interested, we welcome
donations.
If you are just looking for a
book or dvd and don’t see it in our
Library Catalog (available online
https://vernonia.biblionix.com/
catalog/), ask Library staff and we
will help direct you to the best
option for your request. If you have
questions about the new ILL service
or want to know more about the
request or purchase process at the
Library, please contact Shannon
Romtvedt, shannonr@vernonia-or.
gov or (503) 429-1818.

Passage by Rinker Buck
Since there is a big demand for
Christmas books and dvds this
time of year, the Library has an
ongoing display this month of all our
Christmas themed materials. The
Children’s section also has a new
Holiday collection, featuring books
specific to holidays throughout the
year. This collection was developed
by staff for parents with little ones.
We hope this makes browsing our
picture book collection a little easier,
especially during the Holiday season.
